Postal Ballot fiasco
ITANAGAR, Apr 17: The process of delivering postal ballot (PB) is faced with a major glitch as many govt. employees who were engaged by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the April 9 polls in Arunachal Pradesh are yet to receive their postal ballot.
Many employees have expressed their concern at the delay and has raised question at the postal ballot dispatch and delivery being handled by the various DEOs.
Even those people who have filled the Form 12 in order to cast their postal ballot are unable to do so as PBs were not issued.
It remains to be seen as what actions will be initiated by the Election Commission of India for the employee for being deprived of their constitutional right.
20th Tekang Etor Football Tournament begins
ITANAGAR, Apr 17: The 20th Tekang Etor Football Trophy 2014 began at Tekang village near Pasighat yesterday.

The tournament is being organized as part of the Etor/Lutor festival and to expose the hidden budding soccer talents as well.
Attending the opening ceremony, Pasighat Municipality chief councillor Denong Tamuk, asked the players to maintain sportsman spirit and avail the opportunity of the tournament to show their latent talents.
Gone are the days when players used to play football with muscle power, he said while advising them to strictly follow the rules and regulations as prescribed by FIFA.
He also appealed to the football lovers/audience to cooperate with the organizing committee for smooth conduct of the tournament.
The inaugural match was played between Boying Soccer Club and Bilat Sporting Club
in which the former won the match by margin of 2-
The final match is scheduled to be played on May 19. Dozens of PRI leaders and GBs were also present during the inaugural function.
Hailstorm hits Daporijo

DAPORIJO, Apr 17: Hailstorm coupled with gales and heavy rains hit Daporijo yesterday evening and blew away roofs of many houses.
Though there was no report of casualty, the storm blew away roofs of many houses, including the office building of the Project Director and other buildings in the DC’s office complex here.
The sudden and unexpected rain flooded the entire Daporijo township and water entered into houses in many localities.
Residents were seen busy whole night in evacuating rain water from their houses. Many areas were also waterlogged.
Sunny and pleasant afternoon suddenly turned gloomy as clouds covered the sky before occurrence of the hailstorm, which lasted for about 10 minutes.
INC candidate alleges anomaly in EVM of Taba polling booth, demands enquiry

In his complaint letter addressed to the Kurung Kumey DEO, he appealed for constitution of a board and thorough inspection of the EVM in presence of the polling agent of all affecting political parties.
“The EVM was in captive of my political opponent from PPA for more than eight hours after a group of men snatched it from the polling team on April 10 at Rengchi Poriang village. He must have tempered with the paper seal or the EVM,” he claimed asking for repoll in the said polling station if any error is detected during inspection.
Renovation work
NAHARLAGUN, Apr 17: The Arunachal Bhawan, Kolkata will not be available for accommodation to officials and general public for next three days due to ongoing renovation work of the building, informed Deputy Resident Commissioner, Kolkata, Bijoy Talukdar.

Missing poll official found dead
ITANAGAR, Apr 17: Mathew Dabi, a poll official who went missing on 9th April from Siine village under Boleng circle of East Siang district was found dead today. According to the SP East Siang D Arya his body was found this afternoon two kilometer away from Siine village in a gorge. The cause of death will only be ascertained after post mortem is done, SP added.
He further informed that they have written for post mortem to be carried out at Pasighat General Hospital. The body of deceased will be brought to Pasighat tomorrow.
The news of his death has traumatized the family members. His wife has appealed to the concern authorities to constitute team of doctors from Pasighat General Hospital to conduct post mortem as he died under mysterious circumstance. The family of late Dabi also refused to let post mortem be performed at Boleng hospital.

BJP accuses Congress of ‘Talibanization of election process’
ITANAGAR, Apr 17: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh today accused the ruling Congress of ‘Talibanization of the election process’ in Arunachal Pradesh.
"The BJP highly condemns the Talibanization of the election process in state and also condemns the State Election Commission for the incidents that took place between March 25 last to April 13 last, despite repeated complains being registered by the party".
Addressing the media persons at the party headquarters here, BJP state unit president Tai Tagak alleged that the Congress workers orchestrated a series of poll related violence at various places where the BJP candidates were sure to win.

DEO holds meet with political parties and polling personnel

The RO informed that section 130 of the Representation of the People Act 1951 stipulates that no person shall canvass for votes or exhibit any notice or signs relating to the election within the polling station on the day of poll. It was also clarified that wearable caps, shawls etc. with political party’s name, symbol or slogan are not allowed inside the polling stations on the day of poll. Everybody was informed that after poll, the polled EVMs and polled materials will be brought to the Reception Centre located at Aalo Club and they were requested to be present at the Aalo Club on 19th April at 5PM during scrutiny of Register of Voters (17A) as well as opening and sealing of Strong Room.
The DEO appealed all present that they should extend their full cooperation to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of fresh poll. Joint team constituted to contain forest fire in Capital area
ITANAGAR, Apr 17: Expressing concern over the couple of forest fire incidences in and around Itanagar Capital Complex on April 15 night, particularly in the adjoining area of Dariya Hills and right bank across Sanki River, the forest and environment department in an emergency meeting chalked out immediate plan to control the forest fire.
In the meeting chaired by Dr. Rabindra Kumar, Addl. PCCF (A&V) & Special Secretary (E&F) and attended by T T Toppu, DFO ltanagar Social Forestry Division, T. Sira, DFO Banderdewa Forest Division and Joram Dopum, Dy. Chief Wildlife Warden, Naharlagun, a joint team of field executive staff pooling personnel from all the above three forest divisions was formed and directed to rush to the spots and take measures to contain the situation.
The meeting was held under the initiative of the Conservator of Forests (HQ) Hibu Dole.
The patrolling team was also put into service in the afternoon with necessary instructions both for controlling the forest fire and apprehending the offenders involved in causing such incidences in and around the capital complex.
Meanwhile, the local administration and police department have been requested to extend necessary help in the operation and the local people are also urged to cooperate in preventing forest fires which take a heavy toll of pristine natural resources. DIPR
Prohibitory order imposed
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the wanton destruction of jungle for Jhum cultivation and establishment of new settlement areas in and around Itanagar Capital Complex and nearby areas, the Capital Complex district magistrate Mige Kamki under section 144 CrPC has prohibited felling, clearing of jungles by burning or otherwise for the purpose of jhum cultivation, new settlement areas and for any other purpose whatsoever, in the entire Itanagar Capital Complex including Drupong Reserve Forest and Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary with immediate effect.
The city Superintendent of Police, Deputy Chief Wildlife Warden, Itanagar/Naharlagun, DFO (SF), Itanagar and DFO, Banderdewa are also enjoined upon to enforce this prohibitory order besides prosecuting persons involved in such activities under relevant provisions of law, as these areas fall under Drupong Reserve Forest and Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary.
The DM in its order said that the wanton destruction of forest has become a public nuisance as it endangers human life, health and safety besides endangering the already dwindling flora and fauna of the reserved forest and wildlife sanctuary. Moreover, destruction of flora & fauna by clearing jungle and setting them on fire is likely to cause serious ecological imbalance and environmental hazard.

The political leaders and their supporters are anxiously waiting for the election results to be declared next month with their finger crossed. They are also seen busy calculating the winning prospects of various contesting candidates and likely outcome that the election result may produce.
The election reminds everyone of their sweet and bitter memories of the past five years. Also, the people retrospect the veracity of the ritualistic promises of development that their dear legislators gave them five years ago.
The election was held to elect 49 law makers to the assembly out of the 60 besides two parliamentarians from the state.
It was observed that some of the contesting candidates had gone whole hog in their campaign to woo voters. In between their rhetoric and oratory, the core issues were, however, sidelined. Except making fabricated promises, no candidate has been found serious on the issues of recurring problems of the district, like repairing of the damaged roads, dilapidated bridges and improvement of the communication system.

Speaking at the valedictory function, Ajay Pal Singh, DIG, ITBP, spoke about the challenges that young people face on migrating to bigger cities and encouraged them to count on their personal skills and talents in coping with changing life situation. The DIG also exhorted the trainees to look to the future with confidence and to work on their talents.
Dr. VN Sharma, State Liaison Officer for NSS called upon the participants to consider themselves to be fortunate to get such opportunities and encouraged them to abstain from repeating mistakes.
“It is human to err, but not to repeat the same old mistakes is wisdom. The world belongs to the youngster who wants to change for the better”, he added.
Earlier, Fr. CD Mathai, Parish Priest, Catholic Church, Itanagar spoke on Don Bosco, who as a young person, had to do all sorts of hardwork to earn a living and pursue his studies as he was from a poor family.
“This enabled Don Bosco to be very endearing to youth and the Salesians of Don Bosco are trying to replicate the same today”, said Fr. Mathai. He also called upon the trainees to work hard and be useful citizens.
Miter Jilen, one of the trainees, spoke of the unique training at DBYC which has made a paradigm shift in the lives of the trainees.

Shortage of dustbins in capital complex
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to draw kind attention of UD & Housing department that in many sectors and colony of Capital Complex due to shortage of proper dustbin people throw their household wastage in open and within an hour it gets converted into dumping area. It creates unpleasant atmosphere around the sectors and colony. Sometimes wastage comes out in the surface of road which makes it difficult for citizen to walk. We request concern authority to kindly construct proper dustbin and renovate outdated dustbin so that people can dispose of their household wastage at proper place. Such steps will make work easier for the department as they can collect wastages easily from the dustbins. We also appeal citizens of all the sector and colony not to throw wastages in open area and keep sector and colony clean.
